    Tools

    • •Tape measure, pencil & spirit level
    • •Mitre saw or mitre box + fine hand saw
    • •Grab adhesive + caulking gun
    • •Brad nailer or panel pins
    • •Decorator's caulk & filler

    Fitting steps

    1. Mark your grid on the wall from the cut list, checking every line with the level.
    2. Cut battens to length; mitre any moulding corners at 45°.
    3. Fix with grab adhesive and a few pins; work the frame first, then the infill.
    4. Fill pin holes and joints, caulk the edges, then prime and paint.

Estimates use uniform batten widths and assume battens run full height with rails cut to fit between. Add your waste % for offcuts and mitres. MDF strip is typically 9–12 mm thick, 40–100 mm wide. Your project is saved in this browser only — use the share link to send it on.

A free wall molding and panel planner

Designing wall molding, wall panelling or board and batten by hand means fiddly maths: dividing a wall into even panels, keeping gaps consistent, working around doors, windows and sockets, and then figuring out how much material to buy. This planner does all of it in the browser — no sign-up, no download. Enter your wall size, pick a style, and get an exact panel layout, a cut list and a material cost estimate you can take to the shop.

    Styles you can plan

    How it works

    1. Enter your wall — width and height in metric (mm/cm) or imperial (inches/feet).
    2. Choose a style and refine — drag dividers, lock panel widths, set gaps and margins.
    3. Price and build — get a profile-separated cut list, a material cost estimate, and a printable build pack to save as a PDF.

    Frequently asked questions

    Is the wall planner free?
Yes. You can plan one wall, see the full cut list and costs, and export for free. A one-time Pro unlock adds unlimited walls and removes the watermark from exports.
Does it work for board and batten and wainscoting?
Yes. It handles picture-frame molding, board and batten, shaker panelling, wainscoting and dado layouts, and staircase walls, with independent rows and spacing.
Can I use inches and feet?
Yes. Switch units between millimetres, centimetres and inches. In imperial mode, material totals show in feet and pricing is per foot; metric shows metres and per metre.
Does it estimate how much material I need?
Yes. It packs your pieces onto stock lengths (accounting for saw kerf and end trims), adds a spare allowance, and estimates cost per profile in your chosen currency.
Do I need to install anything or create an account?
No. It runs entirely in your browser. Projects save locally, and you can share an editable design with a link.
